EARTH
IT’S ALL FOR THE
And what makes the Earth worth doing it all for . . . ?
Its people, its animals, its unique and delicately balanced eco-systems. Its sunrises, moonrises, rivers, lakes, estuaries and oceans. Its cultures and its ecology.
Creating things in this modern world has become an increasingly dirty business, which, if we trace it all back through history, took root in the colonial ages when European nations invaded Black and Brown nations all over the world to take control of their people and their natural resources. To this day, white supremacist constructs of thought and society continue to disrupt healthy indigenous social structures which have thrived in harmony - as one coherent whole - with their unique environs.
The fashion and art industries use materials that are destructive to the Earth, Her people, plants, animals and lands when they are produced in large quantities. The fashion industry is particularly dirty. This is why I’ve always looked for the most Earth friendly way to create whatever I’m creating.
All my art-to-wear jewelry and adornment pieces are created using sterling silver and gold fill sheet that milled in a refinery that operated at 90% eco friendly standards, which is quite high for metal production. I also incorporate deadstock chain in my designs because after exhaustive searches, I found no eco-friendly chain producers. In my zero-waste collection, Spaces, I reuse the small shapes and chain left over from creating my larger collections, Ethers, Eon, Synthesis, and Revolution.
My clothing and cloth accessories are made primarily with discarded linen from local hotels and linen services. The materials are scoured and then dyed using a process that uses only Earth pigments, soybeans and very little water and heat. Most dye methods in use today require heavy metals to bind the pigment to the fibers, but this method does not!
Select few of my clothing and accessories pieces are created with new eco-friendly, sustainably and ethically produced cloth from Pickering International. Their methods are clearly spelled out on their website for anyone who would like to understand fabric production more deeply.
My art pieces are also made using discarded and found materials. The WEBS series is hand formed using industrial waste textiles which have been dyed in the same non-toxic process mentioned above. The MATTER series, is made with old lamps, reclaimed floral wire, and metal structures from old tables and home goods.
Even my music supports the Earth and its people. My sounds are ambient, restorative and relaxing. The lyrics are often expressing love and admiration for real Earth magic like rain, the four elements, human connection, and personified deity energies that represent real phenomenon of entire natural Universe. I often incorporate real sounds that I’ve recorded in nature.
From head to toe. From ear to eye to heart to feet. From start to finish, my creation centers the Earth.
I’m all about transparency, so if you have any questions that haven’t been answered in my website about my sustainable practices please . . .
